Day

“What?” Day asked when his friends stared at him.

“Dinner and butt sex?”

“Apparently,” Day said with a grin.

“You guys talk about everything?”

“Guess we do,” Day said and frowned. “Why?”

“Just everything about sex, or everything about everything?”

“Huh?”

“Have you talked about them?”

Day turned to find Mac staring at the framed photo on the wall. It was a black and white picture Mac’s dad had taken a long fucking time ago. Two adults and three children. Day was on his father’s shoulders and his sisters in his parents’ arms.

They were all looking straight into the camera, and they were all laughing. They looked happy because they’d been happy.

Bebe had helped him hang it the day before, and they'd had a glass of prosecco on the back deck afterward. She'd told him about her parents, and about her brother who she wasn't close with. And he had talked about his family. It had felt natural and easy, and he started to suspect that it had been a bit stupid to keep his happy memories to himself over the years.

“Yeah,” Day said quietly. “We talk about everything.” Then he turned and grinned at Mac and said, heavy on the innuendo, “Everything.”

Mac got what he meant immediately and shrugged with a crooked grin.

Gibson got it too, and his brows went up.

“You know?”

“Yup.”

Gibson had apparently shared with the others that Mac was up to something because Day had three sets of expectant eyes aimed his way.

“Promised Bebe I wouldn’t tell.”

“Oh, for fuck’s sake,” Joke grunted. “Mac?”

Mac’s pager suddenly beeped loudly into the silence.

“And on that note,” Mac said with a grin. “Duty calls, so I guess I have to go.”
